Late Comeback Falls Short For Harford

  • Final Score: ASA Avengers 67 - Harford Fighting Owls 60
  • Records: Harford 16-2 | ASA 16-0
  • Location: Bel Air, Md. – APG Federal Credit Union Arena
  • The Short Story: In a rematch from earlier in the season, Harford would take on ASA in front of a ruckus Friday night crowd in their attempt to avenge their early season loss. Despite trailing for most of the contest the Fighting Owls would storm back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 60 points each. A quartet of late free throws with just seconds left would seal the deal for the Avengers and squelch Harford's comeback, handing the Fighting Owls just their second defeat this season.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford would find themselves down 21-14 at the end of the first quarter thanks in part to two 7-0 runs from ASA and the Fighting Owls 0-7 shooting from range.
  • The Fighting Owls would stay within striking distance of the Avengers thanks to Destinee McQueen's eight points and two rebounds while playing with two fouls.
  • Ryan Holder's five points in the third quarter proved to be vital in keeping Harford in the contest, but ASA would see their lead grow from seven to 10 thanks to Caitlin Roche's seven points.
  • Tianna Swearinger's layup early in the fourth quarter would spark a 14-6 run in favor of the Fighting Owls, cutting ASA's lead down to two. Shawnkia McCallum added five of her own to the rally with Ryan Holder and Joy Morton adding four and three points respectively.
  • Avengers guard Silvia Vasquez-Rivera would hit a corner three to bring ASA's lead back up to five. The shot from distance would trigger a series of back and forth action, with Harford's trio of Morton, McQueen and Janiece Loney nailing three straight shots from beyond the arc to knot the game at 60 with less than a minute left.
  • Unfortunately for the Fighting Owls their magic would run out as an ASA three-pointer along a couple of late fouls against Harford would cement the victory for the Avengers.
  • Holder would lead all scorers with 15 points while contributing five rebounds and four blocks. McQueen finished the evening with 13 points on 5-8 shooting and Joy Morton would finish with 10 points and eight rebounds.
