Annandale, Va. - Dahnye Redd scored 40 points while grabbing 29 rebounds, as Harford dominated the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Nighthawks 114-42 in the Fighting Owls' 2018-19 season opener.
Redd, who lost most of her 2017 season due to injury, went right back to work on Thursday, controlling the paint on both sides of the floor en route to a double-double. Eight of Harford's opening 14 points would come from the Redshirt-Sophomore, who'd finish the game shooting 19-33 from the field.
Harford got off to a slow start by their standards, but still led the Nighthawks 24-12 at the end of the first quarter. That would change just 10 minutes later, as the Fighting Owls would go into halftime leading 51-18 thanks to Redd's 11 points and
Ayanna Mazyck's seven.
Much of the same would come from both teams out of the half. Despite outrebounding Harford 13-11 in the quarter, the ladies in blue would stifle NOVA's offense while scoring 27 points of their own. A 36-point performance in the fourth rounded out the first Fighting Owls' victory of the new season.
