Tallahassee Upends Harford in Title IX Classic Finals

Washington, D.C. – The No. 22 Harford Fighting Owls came face-to-face with the defending NJCAA Div. I National Champion Tallahassee Community College (TCC), Saturday night in the Title IX D.C. Classic finals at the D.C. Armory. Despite holding the No. 3 ranked Eagles to a season low 80 points, the Fighting Owls fell just short of lifting the tournament banner.

Harford's loss snaps its 14-game win streak, their longest since the 2016-17 season.

The Fighting Owls drop to 14-1 heading into 2019, while TCC moves to 18-0.

Turning Point
Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the first quarter, with the Eagles taking a 14-11 lead before a Harford timeout. The break turned into a major swing, with TCC scoring seven of the games next nine points to go ahead 21-13.

TCC continued to play stifling defensive in the second quarter, outscoring the ladies in blue 19-5 – Harford's lowest output in a quarter this season – to grab a 40-18 advantage at the half.

Game Notes
  • Shawkina Mulazim earned her second straight double-double with a team leading 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Dahnye Redd secured her 15th straight double-double (11 pts., 10 reb.).
  • Harford outscored TCC 20-16 in the fourth quarter.
  • The Fighting Owls struggled to hang onto the rock, turning the ball over a season-high 24 times.
  • The ladies in blue attempted a season-low 53 shots.
Up Next
After nearly a month on the road, the Fighting Owls will return to the APGFCU Arena to face the Community College of Philadelphia on January 4.

Opening tip is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
