  • The Short Story: The Harford softball team dropped their final three games of the Georgia Highlands Tournament on Friday. Game one saw Southern Union blank the Fighting Owls in five innings. Harford would keep things close with Andrew in game two, scoring five runs in the first four innings before their bats cooled off. The Fighting Owls' tournament stint wrapped up with a five inning loss at hands of East Georgia due to the Bobcats eight run outburst in the first two innings.
  • Box Score:
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Emily Bowler started off on the circle for the Fighting Owls, striking out two batters over 2 1/3 innings.
  • The third inning proved to be the difference for Southern Union as they would stockpile 13 runs off of two home runs and four singles.
  • Harford's bats struggled to find holes in the Bison's defense, with Erica James third inning single and Emily Bowler's double in the fourth being the lone two hits for the ladies in blue.
GAME 2
  • The Fighting Owls bats would come alive in game two, taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the third thanks to a pair of singles in the first from Savannah Meyers and Chloe Moyer along with three singles and quality base running in the third.
  • After losing the lead in the bottom of the inning, the ladies in blue would tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth thanks to the clutch singles from Emily Bowler and Lindsay Bowler.
  • Andrew would once again strike in the bottom of the inning, grabbing a pair of runs that gave them a 7-5 lead.
  • With the game on the line in the top of the seventh, Harford received quality at-bats from Olivia Gallimore (single) and Meyers (hit by pitch). After a fielder's choice the Fighting Owls would have runners on second and third with one out before two strikeouts would end the rally.
GAME 3
  • The ladies in blue struggled out of the gates, falling behind 8-0 after two innings due to a pair doubles and three singles off the East Georgia bats.
  • Harford's offense would not move the needle for much of the game, reaching base just five times in 22 tries.
  • Three of the Fighting Owls five base knocks came during the top of the fifth, including a trio of singles from Emily Bowler, Lindsay Bowler and Alexis Valentine. The offensive outburst would bring the score to 10-2, but the Bobcats would shut the door on the Fighting Owls chances by grabbing the final two outs to the end the game.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will take a trip to Petersburg, Virginia on February 16 for a doubleheader clash against Richard Bland.
  • The Friday tilt is the season opener for the Statesmen, who split a pair of contests against the Fighting Owls last season.
