HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Mercer loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first, but Frankie Fraschetti would get the next Viking batter to strike out to end the side.
  • The Vikings found themselves in a similar position in the bottom of the inning as Harford loaded the bases with one out. The Fighting Owls pushed through one run off of a fielder's choice that scored Nick Rowland, but the Vikings struck out the next batter to end the damage.
  • After shutting down Mercer in the top of the second, Harford would strike for 10 runs to give them an 11-0 lead. The burst of offensive was highlighted by Lou Testa's grand slam to left-center field.
  • Testa's solo shot extended the Fighting Owls lead to 12-0 in the bottom of the third. Harford would push the game completely out of reach by adding two more runs in the fourth on their way to a 14-0 win after just five innings.
  • Fraschetti finished the game allowing just one hit while striking out a pair of batters through five innings in a mercy rule shortened game.
GAME 2
  • The Fighting Owls and Vikings combined for just one hit in the first two innings with both starting pitchers racking up numerous strikeouts.
  • Mercer would strike first with a solo home run in the top of third to give them a 1-0 lead.
  • After working an eight pitch count in the bottom of the third, Nick Rowland would send a ball over the left field wall to bring in three runs and put Harford up 3-1.
  • The Vikings answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth, but Lou Testa would strike with a two-run bomb that Spencer Smith followed with a solo shot to put Harford back on top with a 6-3 advantage.
  • Mercer proved to be relentless, adding two runs in the bottom of the fifth that would force the Fighting Owls to bring in Justin Fox for a four-out save. Fox would put an end to the two-out rally with a diving stop and toss to first basemen Nick D'Amore to secure the third out.
  • After balking in a run to boost Harford's lead to 7-5, Mercer would have three outs left to salvage a series split. Fox would come up big once again, striking out two of the Vikings final three batters to secure the sweep.
  • With the win Guth improves his record to 2-0 while Fox grabbed his second save of the 2018 season.
