Harford Overpowers Frederick

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls picked up their first two conference wins on Sunday, overwhelming the Cougars with five home runs between the two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Emily Bowler's home run in the top of the first put Harford up 1-0 early.
  • Strong base running from Savannah Meyers would see her score off a wild pitch to make it 2-0 after two.
  • The Fighting Owls continued their hot start by plating five more runs in the top of the third, highlighted by Alexis Mack's three-run home run to give the ladies in blue a 7-0 lead.
  • Frederick's four runs in the bottom of the fourth made it 7-4, but Harford would put the game out of reach by scoring three of their own in the seventh to give them an 11-4 lead
  • A late comeback attempt saw the Cougars score one run in the bottom of the seventh before Harford ended the rally at 11-5.
  • Alexis Valentine picked up the win from the mound for the Fighting Owls, surrendering just three earned runs while collecting six strikeouts.
GAME 2
  • Alexis Mack hit her second home run of the day to put Harford ahead 2-0 in the top of the first.
  • The Cougars pulled ahead 4-2 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and second.
  • Frederick's lead would be short lived as the Fighting Owls scored three runs in the third to give them a 5-4 advantage.
  • Emily Bowler provided her own run support at the plate with a two-run shot to center field to make it 7-4 in the top of the fourth.
  • Frederick scored one run in the bottom of the inning, but Chloe Moyer smashed Harford's third home run of the game and fifth of the day to complete the sweep with a 9-5 win.
  • Mack lead all Fighting Owls with a 3-4 day at the plate while driving in four runs. The freshman shortstop finished the weekend with a .467 batting average and 11 RBIs.
  • Bowler secured up her first win of the season on the mound, allowing two earned runs through seven innings.
UP NEXT
  • Harford returns home to take on Hagerstown for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 20 at 3:00 PM.
  • The Hawks are 9-7 on the season and come into the matchup having won their last six games.
