Fighting Owls Sweep Erie

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls swept a three-game series against Erie, winning via mercy rule in every contest. Sunday's doubleheader saw the men in blue come away with 14-4 and 16-6 victories thanks to a big day from Nick D'Amore, while Monday would showcase Harford's arms in a 10-0 shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • After two walks and a pass ball, Nick D'Amore's sacrifice fly drove home Nick Rowland to score Harford's first run of the day. Michael Richardson would score on a wild pitch during the next at-bat to give the men in blue a 2-0 lead after the first.
  • D'Amore's two-RBI double down the left field line capped a four-run second inning to put the Fighting Owls ahead 6-0.
  • Erie cut Harford's lead down to 6-4 in the top of the fourth, but Harford answered with seven of their own to enter the fifth with a 13-4 advantage
  • Nehemiah Wright's home run in the bottom of the fifth would end the game at 14-4 after five innings.
  • Braeden Fausnaught picked up his first collegiate win from the mound, going three innings without giving up a hit while striking out a pair of batters.
GAME 2
  • Game two featured a couple of lead changes throughout the game, with Harford jumping out to a 5-1 lead after two.
  • Erie's bats came alive in the top of the fourth as they would grab five runs of their own for a 6-5 advantage.
  • Joey Schwartz's three-run home run put the Fighting Owls back up 8-6 in the bottom of the fourth
  • Harford's bats stayed hot in the fifth, as Edward Camp's RBI double sparked an eight-run inning to hand the Fighting Owls a sweep on the day with the 16-6 win.
GAME 3
  • D'Amore picked up right where he left off on Sunday, driving home Nick Rowland to give Harford a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
  • The Fighting Owls plated four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Colin Adams and a two-RBI double by Lou Testa for an 8-0 lead.
  • Adam's first home run of the season put Harford up 9-0 in the seventh. Fast forward four batters later and the bases were loaded for Nick Delp, who would smash an RBI single through the left side of the infield to complete the sweep and give Harford a 10-0 mercy rule victory.
  • Camden Cregger secured his first win in a Harford uniform, allowing just two hits while striking out two in five innings. David Moore was solid in relief, striking out four batters in two innings of work.

  • Harford will complete their homestand with a game against conference foe Dundalk on Thursday, March 29 at 3:00 PM.
  • The Lions hold a 7-9 record this season and will head to Catonsville before facing the Fighting Owls.
