  • Scores:
    • Game 1: #18 Harford 8 –  Bryant & Stratton 9
    • Game 2: #18 Harford  15 –  Bryant & Stratton 3  (6 Innings)
  • Records: Harford 6-4  | Monroe 10-5
  • Location: Virginia Beach, Va.
  • The Short Story: Harford saw a couple of really good starting pitcher debuts and a pair of home runs from freshman Spencer Smith, but were only able to pull out a split in Virginia. The doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played at Harford was moved to Virginia due to damage at the Fighting Owls' baseball stadium from the stormy weather.
  • Box Score:
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • David Moore threw four solid innings of work in his first start of the season, racking up seven strikeouts while giving up just three hits and two runs.
  • The Fighting Owls' bats struggled at first, but a Ryan Calhoun RBI in the third tied the game then Joseph Sibeto hit an RBI single to take the lead in the fourth.
  • Harford got a rally going in the top of the fifth with a Lou Testa RBI single followed by a Nehemiah Wright RBI single that moved Joey Schwartz to third with Schwartz later scoring on a passed ball to give the Fighting Owls a 6-2 lead.
  • Bryant & Stratton scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead back with Harford's only response coming from Spencer Smith hitting a two run bomb in the sixth, but Harford left the potential game tying run stranded in scoring position in the seventh as Harford dropped game one.
GAME 2
  • Harford got the bats going early in game two as Joey Schwartz hit a three run home run in the third to get the Fighting Owls on the board first.
  • Nick Rowland and Ryan Calhoun added RBI singles in a four run fourth inning for Harford.
  • Bryant & Stratton answered back with a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Harford scored three more in the top of the fifth highlighted by a Nolan Charlton RBI double.
  • Spencer Smith homered for the second time on the day in the top of the sixth with Matthew Shilling adding a two RBI single that forced the mercy rule into affect after six innings.
  • Brandon Nickel, pitching for the first time in three years, struck out the side on 13 pitches to close out the game in the sixth inning.
UP NEXT
