Harford Splits With Catonsville

  • The Short Story: Harford faced a tough challenge in conference rival Catonsville on Thursday, dropping game one of the doubleheader 13-7 before winning a 15-10 shootout in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Catonsville got off to a quick start and led 8-4 after two innings.
  • Harford would load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fifth but could only plate one to cut the Cardinals lead to 8-5.
  • The Cardinals padded their lead in the seventh, grabbing five more runs to make it 13-5.
  • The Fighting Owls attempted to make a comeback with three outs left, scoring two runs off Joey Schwartz solo home run and Brayden Parr's RBI-single gave Harford two more runs before the Cardinals put the game away to pick up the 13-7 win.
Game 2
  • The Cardinals would get off to another fast start and held a 2-0 advantage after the top of the first.
  • Harford answered in the bottom of the first with four runs thanks to a couple of wild pitches and an RBI-double from Ryan Calhoun.
  • Back-to-back RBI-doubles from Joey Schwartz and Spencer Smith pushed the Fighting Owls lead up to 6-2 after 2.
  • Catonsville scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth, but Ryan Calhoun's three-run blast to center in the bottom put Harford up 9-5 heading to the fifth.
  • The Fighting Owls lead would be short lived as the Cardinals would go ahead 10-9 in the next inning.
  • Tensions ran high in the bottom of the fifth when Catonsville's relief pitcher hit back to back Harford batters in the head. The Fighting Owls would capitalize, scoring three runs to take a 12-10 lead.
  • Nolan Charlton's RBI-triple and Spencer Smith's two-run bomb put Harford up 15-10 in the sixth. Justin Fox would make sure it stayed that way, shutting down the Cardinals offense in the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will finish out their home stand Saturday when they host Allegany for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 starting at Noon.
  • The Trojans sit at 11-9 on the year and are 7-3 in conference play.
