HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1
  • Harford gave up five runs in the sixth inning to blow a 5-2 lead. Truman Thomas started the inning off with a walk and a hit batter before being replaced by David Moore (L, 1-2). Moore gave up a 2-run double, allowing the Catamounts to pull within a run at 5-4. Following a bunt single and a walk to load the bases, a fielding error on a slow ground ball to second base allowed the tying run to score. Moore induced a double play by the next batter but the go-ahead run scored in the process to make it 6-5. The Catamounts scored an insurance run on a wild pitch to make it 7-5 heading into the seventh inning.
  • Harford got the tying run on base with two outs in the seventh inning but was unable to come up with a hit to extend the game. With two outs, Ryan Calhoun singled and Joey Schwartz drew a walk, putting the tying run on base. Jordyn Smith pinch hit but was unable to keep the rally going as he struck out swinging after a couple questionable calls put him behind in the count.
  • Harford looked to be on track for a win midway through the game after a three-run home run by Spencer Smith gave them a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning. It was his 15th home run of the season.
  • In the sixth inning Harford added to their lead when Colin Adams hit a double to put runners on second and third base. Braydon Parr hit a sharp single through a drawn-in infield to plate a run and Rowland hit a sacrifice fly to plate another giving Harford a 5-2 lead that they would relinquish an inning later.
  • Thomas struck out nine over five plus innings but was hit for four runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batter. He would not factor in the decision.
GAME 2
  • Rowland propelled the Fighting Owls offense with a pair of doubles. He tied the game with a two-run double in the fifth inning. He broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning with a RBI double, scoring Matthew Schilling, who was on the move on the pitch, from first base.
  • Zach Guth (W, 9-0) came out on top in a pitchers' duel, giving up two unearned runs over 6 2/3 innings pitched. He gave up three hits and walked four but kept the Catamounts offense in check with nine strikeouts.
  • Guth had little to no margin for error as his Catamount counterpart was nearly his equal. Colten Webb (L, 5-2) gave Harford hitters fits for most of the game, striking out 10 while allowing three runs on four hits and four walks.
  • Brandon Nickel (S, 1) entered the game in the seventh with two outs and runners on first and third. He walked the first batter he faced to load the bases but struck out the next batter to lock down the save. It was his first save of the season.
