HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1
  • Nick DeCarlo made his return to the mound as a starter for the first time since injuring his elbow in his first start of 2017 and the results were nearly flawless. DeCarlo carved his way through the Vikings' lineup, striking out seven while allowing just one hit and two walks over four innings. Mercer County worked into favorable counts on numerous occasions but DeCarlo refused to give in, making big pitch after big pitch to keep his opponents off base.
  • Braydon Parr came through with a clutch two-run single in the fourth to break the game open for Harford. After Ryan Calhoun doubled to put runners on second and third, Mercer County opted to intentionally walk Lou Testa to load the bases. Parr made them pay with a lined single to left center, sparking a five-run inning that put the Fighting Owls ahead 6-0.
  • Mike Richardson and Nick Rowland each came up with an RBI double in the contest. Richardson smacked a fly ball to left center to cap off the five-run rally for Harford in the fourth. Rowland doubled to left in the sixth inning to give Harford a 7-0 lead.
  • Edward Camp pinch ran in the seventh inning and used his speed to score a run without the ball even being put into play. He stole second, then stole third and scored on an errant throw.
  • Justin Fox came on to pitch a scoreless seventh in a non-save situation. He struck out one and walked one in an inning of work.

GAME 2
  • Harford played from behind for most of game two as they were unable to string together enough hits to mount a rally. Twice Harford loaded the bases with less than two outs and both times they were unable to come up with a hit to make the Mercer County pitchers pay. In the second inning the Fighting Owls loaded the bases with one out and came away with no runs. In the fifth inning, they loaded the bases with no outs and were only able to score twice courtesy of a wild pitch, which scored Adam Collins, and a groundout to the pitcher by Spencer Smith.
  • Down 3-0 in the fourth inning, Harford got on the board thanks to a towering solo home run by Joey Schwartz. Schwartz is now second on the team with eight home runs on the season.
  • Antonio Buckley (1-1) made his first start of the season and took the loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out four over three innings.
  • Truman Thomas was solid out of the bullpen, striking out seven over three innings of work. He gave up a run on two hits and a walk.
UP NEXT
