Monroe Hands Harford First Loss

  • The Short Story: The #2 Fighting Owls faced their toughest competition to date in women's lacrosse powerhouse and top ranked Monroe, giving the Tribunes all they could handle before falling 18-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Monroe got out to an early 1-0 lead, but Rachel Wilson would find pay dirt to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Tribune grabbed two goals in less than a minute for a 3-1 lead at the 25-minute mark in the first.
  • Nina Urban tucked home a pass from Courtney Poole to cut the deficit in half with 22:31 left in the opening half.
  • The two teams traded chances over the next few minutes before Monroe would pull ahead 6-2 with under 20 minutes to go.
  • Rachel Wilson scored a pair of goals for the Fighting Owls before halftime, but the Tribunes scored four of their own and led 10-4 at halftime.
  • Adrianna Williams two goals would sandwich Bethany Bishop's score for Harford to make it 12-5 ten minutes into the second half.
  • Both teams would score midway through the second to leave the score at 13-6 with twelve minutes left.
  • Monroe began to pull away in the final 10 minutes, scoring five of the last six goals to walk out of Bel Air with an 18-7 victory.
  • Despite the loss the Fighting Owls impressed on the day, matching up well in many statistical categories with the Tribunes, who have now won 88 straight games over the past five years.
  • Wilson led all Harford players with four goals on the day, with Wilson, Urban and Bethany Bishop each scoring once.
  • Cidney Gray looked strong patrolling the Fighting Owls back line, scooping up five ground balls and causing three turnovers.
