  • Score:
    • Game 1: Harford 11 – Delaware Tech 8
  • Records: Harford 43-10 | Delaware Tech 23-17
  • Location: Bel Air, Md. – Harford Baseball Stadium
  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls kicked off the month of May with a showdown against Delaware Tech, defeating their out-of-state rivals 11-8. The two teams would trade ownership of the lead until the eighth, when Joey Schwartz two-RBI double put Harford ahead for good.
  • Box Scores:
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a Nick Rowland leadoff walk Delaware Tech botched a potential double play ball, allowing Michael Richardson to reach second base and Rowland to score. Spencer Smith's single would be enough to drive in Richardson to give Harford a 2-0 lead after one.
  • Malike' Johnson's home run evened the score at 2-2 in the second. Nick Delp answered Johnson in the bottom of the inning with a long ball of his own to put the Fighting Owls back up 3-2.
  • The score stayed the same until the bottom of the fourth when Lou Testa's solo home run to left center made it 4-2 in favor of the men in blue.
  • The Fighting Owls turned a double play to start the fifth, but would allow Delaware Tech to tie the game off a fielding error and a bases loaded walk. A wild pitch followed by Harford's second error of the inning plated two more runs for the visitors to put them ahead 6-4.
  • Ryan Calhoun's two-run home tied the game at six in bottom of the fifth. Joey Schwartz's double and Lou Testa's walk put runners on first and second for Delp, who would come up clutch once again with an RBI-single for a 7-6 advantage.
  • Del Tech continued to hang around and eventually pulled ahead 8-7 in the seventh. Harford waited until the bottom of the eight to answer, taking an 11-8 lead thanks to an RBI-single from Smith and Joey Schwartz's two-out double.
  • Justin Fox closed out the game in the top of the ninth to secure his conference-leading fifth save of the season and Harford's 43 win of the year.
