Fighting Owls Crush 7 HR in Brookdale Rout

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls launched seven home runs in one of their most dominant offensive displays of the season. Harford scored at least two runs in all six of their at-bats on their way to defeating Brookdale 25-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Ryan Calhoun mashed a two-run home run in the first to give Harford a 2-1 lead. He now has 14 home runs on the season.
  • In the second inning, the Fighting Owls scored six runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Colin Adams led the inning off with his fourth home run of the season. Nick Rowland made it 4-1 with a sacrifice fly and Lou Testa landed the big blow with a grand slam to center field making it 8-1. It was his 12th home run of the season.
  • After Brookdale pulled a run back in the third, Harford scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Adams led the inning off with a double and Braydon Parr followed with a single. Nick Rowland drove in Adams with his second sacrifice fly of the game. Joey Schwartz and Spencer drew walks to load the bases and Parr scored on a wild pitch. Calhoun drew a walk to reload the bases and Mike Richardson drew a walk to score Schwartz. Testa was hit by a pitch to score Smith and Matthew Shilling drew a walk to score Calhoun, making it 13-2.
  • Harford scored another six runs in the fourth inning. Richardson hit a two-run double to start things off. Joe Sibeto made an immediate impact as a pinch hitter, crushing a three-run shot over he left field fence. Shilling made it back-to-back home runs, blasting his fourth of the season over the fence in right, putting Harford up 19-3
  • In the fifth inning, Harford continued their offensive barrage, as Adams hit a laser a few feet to the right of the scoreboard in left for his second home run of the game, plating three runs and putting Harford up 23-4.
  • Jordyn Smith got in on the fireworks display in the sixth, hitting a two-run moonshot over the blue monster to put Harford up 25-4. It was his third home run of the season.
  • Braeden Fausnaught (W, 5-0) did a great job of getting the offense back in the dugout with four solid innings. He gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three.
  • Jack Slade struck out four in two innings of relief work. He gave up a run on two hits and walk. Camden Cregger pitched the seventh and set the side down in order to finish the run-ruled shortened game.
 
UP NEXT
  • Harford will ride up the Jersey Turnpike to New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on district rival Monroe Friday evening at 6 PM. The teams will play at Iona College.
  • The Mustangs currently have a record of 27-13-1.
  • The teams split a doubleheader when Monroe visited Harford Sports Complex on Febuary 27th. The Mustangs won a 3-1 pitcher's duel in game one as Francisco Justo racked up 14 punch outs. The Fighting Owls' broke out in game two, drawing 12 walks in a 12-5 victory.
