Harford Rolls to 20th Victory

New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Harford women's basketball team earned their 20th win of the season on Sunday, taking down the Erie Kats 95-54 in their final game of the MLK Classic.

Harford has now reached the 20-win mark in each of its last seven seasons.

Five Fighting Owls finished in double figures during the affair, including a career-high 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting from forward Monet Wade.

Harford improves to 20-1 with the victory, while the Kats drop back to 5-10.

Turning Point
The Fighting Owls did most of the heavy lifting during the beginning and end of the game, outscoring Erie 55-21 in the first and fourth quarter. Erie was able to keep the game from getting out of hand with solid showings second and third, but still trailed Harford 40-33 in that time frame.

The combination of Wade, Dahnye Redd and Janiece Loney buried any chance the Kats had at a comeback down the stretch. Wade and Redd teamed up for 15 of Harford's 22 third quarter points, while Loney buried Erie with a trio of trifectas in the fourth.

Game Notes
  • Redd led all players in points (20) and rebounds (14) en route to her 20th double-double of the year.
  • Jewel Porter finished one board shy of her own double-double (14 pts., 9 rebounds).
  • Alexus King led all players with 11 assists.
  • For the sixth straight game Harford finished with at least 10 steals, tallying 17 during today's win. Ariana Fleming and Ayanna Mazyck led the way with four each.
  • The Fighting Owls 50.7% mark from the floor is its second highest of the season.
  • Over their last four games, Harford's defense has forced teams to commit 30 turnovers on average.
