Harford Drops Four in New York

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Harford competed in its second two-day tournament of 2019 over the weekend, dropping a quartet of contests against some stiff competition.

The Fighting Owls (11-9) had won eight straight games coming into the tournament, which was hosted by Monroe College. Harford's opponents include the Mustangs (15-8) as well as Grand Rapids (21-6), Richard Bland (13-11) and Montgomery (15-3).

Despite the 0-4 performance, a number of Fighting Owls had stellar weekends. Katelyn Berger tallied 30 kills and Maria Lopez earned 26. In addition, freshman Maddy Weyer recorded at least 14 assists in each affair.

  • Grand Rapids and Harford had never faced off prior to Friday.
  • This weekend marks the first time the Fighting Owls have lost four straight matches since 2017.
  • With four regular season games left, Harford still has a chance to beat last season's record (14-13).

Harford travels to Bryn Mawr to face a familiar foe in Harcum on Monday, October 14 at 7 p.m.

This will be the fourth time the Fighting Owls and Bears will face each other this season. Harford lost to Harcum in its 2019 season opener, but defeated them twice on a neutral court back in September.
