Harford Tops CSM, Lock Down Semifinal Spot

Hagerstown, Md. – The Harford women's basketball team were victorious in the opening round of the Maryland Junior College Conference Tournament, downing the College of Southern Maryland Hawks 75-46, Thursday night at Hagerstown Community College.

Fighting Owls guard Alexus King led all scorers on the night with 16 points, while Dahnye Redd chipped in 11 points and 17 rebounds to earn her 25th double-double of the season.

Harford improves to 27-1 with the win, while Southern Maryland falls to 12-11.

Both teams would get off to a slow start on offense, making just seven of their 30 shots from the floor in the opening quarter. The game turned quickly in Harford's favor in the second, with King's nine points guiding the Fighting Owls to a 38-14 lead at the half.

Harford continued to keep Southern Maryland's attack at bay in the second half, limiting the Hawks to 3-of-13 shooting in the third and 4-of-17 in the fourth to earn the win.

Coach Seney's Thoughts
"It was great to get this first win under our belts. Credit to Southern Maryland, who forced us into a few turnovers early. Credit to them for their feistiness all game. For our next game, we have to play better against a tough Frederick team."
