Bel Air, Md. -
Mike Taylor struck out eight batters and surrendered just three hits, allowing Harford to cruise past the Chesapeake Skipjacks, 5-1, during game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Harford Stadium.
Taylor (5 IP, 0 ER) was lights out from the opening pitch, sitting down five of the first seven Skipjacks he faced via punch out. He sat down the Skipjacks in order in the third, struck out two more in fourth, and forced his final batter of the day to ground out with the bases loaded.
Spencer Smith got Harford on the board early, following up
Reyce Curnane's double to left with an RBI-single to run for a 1-0 lead.
Matthew Shilling doubled the lead with his own RBI-single before Chesapeake worked their way out of the inning.
Curnane and Smith worked some two out magic in the following inning, this time with back-to-back doubles, to put Harford up 3-0 heading into the third.
A couple of bases loaded walks by the Chesapeake pitching staff were the only noise either team made through the middle innings. The Skipjacks managed to plate one run in the seventh and threatened to score more, but Harford reliever
Matt Gorman stood tall and claimed the final two outs of the game for the Fighting Owls' fifth straight win.
Harford bumps up to 15-5 (5-1 Md Juco) after today's sweep. Chesapeake falters to 12-6 (2-2 Md Juco).
