Bel Air, Md. – Harford's offense was on full display Sunday, mashing six home runs and eight doubles in a lopsided 22-11 defeat of the Erie Kats.
Jordyn Smith's RBI-double kicked off the scoring in the first for Harford. Erie countered with one run in the second and another in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Business picked up significantly from there, as Harford's offense exploded for three RBI-doubles to reclaim the lead. The Fighting Owls then capped off the eight-run inning with two solo shots by
Zach Smith and
Spencer Smith bookending a two-run homer from
Reyce Curnane.
Nolan Charlton,
Spencer Harbert and
Jimmy Nixon took the Kats deep over the next three innings, with a parliament of Fighting Owls doing their part as well to help the men in blue claim an 18-2 lead after five and a 21-4 advantage after sixth.
Erie did not go away quietly and pushed through seven runs in the seventh to avoid being mercy ruled. Their new life proved to be short lived however, as
Marty Neal's RBI-single to right ended the game in the bottom of the inning.
Harford improve to 16-5 (5-1 Md Juco) after the win. Erie falls to 8-9.
