BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford women's volleyball began its 2019 season on Wednesday, dropping their opening match in straight sets (28-26, 25-22, 26-24) to the Harcum Bears inside the APGFCU Arena.

Sophomore Maria Lopez led the way for the Fighting Owls with 10 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Freshman Alex Leslie also saw plenty of action, tallying six kills, three aces and two assists.

Harford drops to 0-1 after the loss, while the Bears move to 3-1 with the win.

How it Happened
Harcum managed to pull away by razor thin margins in the first and third sets, needing extra points to best the Fighting Owls. The Bears flipped a 22-16 deficit in the opener and fended off a pair of potential set points in the third to secure the sweep.

The Fighting Owls nearly pulled off a comeback in the middle set as well, rallying off six straight points before an attacking error sealed their fate.
