FREDERICK, Md. – After 364 days away from the diamond, the Harford softball team opened its 2021 season in the same location it ended nearly one year ago.
Unfortunately for the Fighting Owls, their game ended with a similar result as well, falling 13-0 to Frederick Cougars in five innings on Wednesday.
Harford's biggest chance came in the first, as single from
Lexi Buchanan and
Rilee Fazenbaker planted runners on first and second with one out. A ground out advanced each runner one base but stuck Harford with two outs. Freshman
Alyssa McLaughlin earned a walk in the next at-bat to load the bases, but a strikeout one batter later snuffed out the danger.
The Fighting Owls pulled together just two hits over the next four innings, while the Cougars scored 13 runs on 16 hits.
Harford drops to 0-1 (0-1 MD JUCO) to start the season, while Frederick heads to 1-0 (1-0).
