BEL AIR, Md. – Matt Rivera's walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth earned Harford a 14-13 come from behind win over the Lackawanna Falcons in a wild second game on Sunday evening.
The Fighting Owls trailed 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth, but went on to score 11 runs in the frame to take a 13-8 lead.
Zach Smith kicked off the inning with a solo shot to center, with a wild pitch and a two-RBI single off the bat of
Reyce Curnane bringing Harford within two.
Redshirt sophomore
Ajay Sczepkowski stepped up next and hit a rocket over the outfield wall to tie the game 8-8.
Jeremiah Guzman tripled in the following at bat, then scored on a fielding error to give Harford the lead.
Patrick Campbell drove two home a few batters later, then Rivera hit his first of two homers on the day to score Campbell.
With a 13-8 lead and all momentum seemingly in Harford's favor, Lackawanna managed to scrape by five runs in the seventh off a couple of errors and a two-RBI single. The Fighting Owls had a chance to end the game in the seventh, but walked away empty handed and into extra innings.
After yet another fielding error to start the eighth, Harford reliever
Connor Blantz (1-0) struck out the next three Lackawanna hitters to put the Fighting Owls up to bat. A strikeout brought up Rivera in bottom half, who ended the game with a crushing swing that sent the ball over the center field wall and into the night.
Harford spikes to 9-1-1 with the win, while Lackawanna plummets to 4-3.
