CATONSVILLE, Md. – Harford slugged 10 extra-base hits, including a quintet home runs, on their way to a 17-9 triumph over the Catonsville Cardinals on Tuesday evening.
All five of Harford's long balls came after the fifth inning. The run was kicked off by a two-run blast from the bat of
Ajay Sczepkowski, with
Blake Mayberry joined the fun with a three-run homer in the same inning. Catonsville made it interesting with a grand slam in the sixth, but back-to-back jacks by
Reyce Curnane and Sczepkowski made up for most of the damage.
John McNamee put the bow on the power surge in the eighth, shooting a ball over the left field wall for the last run of the contest. After reliever
John Silder took down the Cardinals in the bottom of the frame, the game was called due to a lack of light with Harford well in front.
Not to be overshadowed was the pitching performance from
Ethan Kiple (1-0). The redshirt sophomore right hander relieved
Connor Blantz (no decision) and halted the Cardinals' four-run third with three strikeouts. In total, Kiple allowed just one hit through three innings of work while sitting down seven via punchout.
Harford improves to 10-1-1 (8-1 MD JUCO) while Catonsville dips to 5-3 (5-1).
