BEL AIR, Md. – An RBI-double off the bat of
Joe Quelch proved just enough for the Fighting Owls to claim a 3-2 victory and a sweep of the Garrett Lakers at home on Saturday.
Harford did not find much in the way of offense in game two. Fresh off an RBI-double to close game one, redshirt sophomore outfielder Ajay Scepkowski hammered a ball to right to plate a pair of runs for an early 2-0 lead. Both teams went without scoring until the fourth, when a bases loaded jam led to two runs for Garrett to tie the game at 2-2.
After trading scoreless frames in the bottom fourth and top of the fifth,
Patrick Campbell provided a glimmer of hope for Harford after earning a walk.
Joe Quelch would play hero this time for Harford, squaring up a ball to deep center that banged off the wall and allowed Campbell to score.
Things got tense for the Fighting Owls in the top of the sixth as Garrett loaded the bases again. Redshirt sophomore reliever
Nick Hohenstein managed to slam the door shut, striking out the next two batters he faced to strand three Lakers.
Connor Blantz came in to the close out the seventh, forcing a groundout and a game ending double play to earn the save.
Harford moves to 4-0 (4-0 MD JUCO) with the victory, while Garrett heads home 0-2 (0-2 MD JUCO).
