Harford Topples Garrett with 11-Run Fourth

BEL AIR, Md. –  A slow start from Harford was not enough to deter the men in blue, as an 11-run fourth followed by a walk off RBI-double in the fifth locked up a 12-2 win over the Garrett Lakers, Saturday afternoon inside the Harford Sports Complex.

Garret grabbed an early 1-0 lead via sacrifice fly in the first. Lakers' starting pitcher Michael Joyce then went to work on the Harford bats, slicing through Harford's lineup to the tune of six strikeouts through one out in the fourth.

That second out proved elusive for Joyce and the Lakers, as Mason Hicks' single was followed up by Andrew Sicinski's two-run blast to put Harford ahead. The Fighting Owls posted two more on Joyce, with Garrett electing to change pitchers thereafter.

The switch proved ineffective, as Reyce Curnane stepped up next and ripped a ball over the right field fence for a 7-1 lead. A pair of walks led two three more hits and four runs for Harford to push its advantage to 11-1.

A solo shot from Garrett extended the game for another half inning, but a Reyce Curnane walk and an RBI-double from Ajay Sczepkowski turned the lights out on game one.

Harford leaps to 3-0 (3-0 MD JUCO) with the win, while Garrett begins its 2021 season at 0-1 (0-1 MD JUCO).
