BEL AIR, Md. – A five-run fifth doomed Harford on Thursday, as they fell in the opening game to the Frederick Cougars, 5-4.
Harford took the opening lead of the day in fourth on a pair of RBI-singles by
Reyce Curnane and
Braydon Parr. Frederick responded by scoring five runs in next frame thanks to a bases loaded walk, two wild pitches and a two-RBI double.
Jack Flanagan made his only hit of the game count in the fifth, taking a ball deep to right field to drive in a pair of runs and pull Harford within four. The Cougars managed to hold on from there, holding the Fighting Owls without a hit the rest of the game to pick up the victory.
Harford dips to 15-7-1 (11-4 MD JUCO) after the defeat.
