BEL AIR, Md. - The Fighting Owls hung on to earn a sweep of the Raptors, defeating the Montgomery Raptors 10-8 in game of two of Tuesday's doubleheader.
The Raptors gained an early 3-0 lead, but Harford responded with nine of its 10 runs over the next three innings to go ahead 9-4. After a scoreless fourth,
Reyce Curnane scored on a wild pitch to plate the Fighting Owls last run of the game.
Harford right-handerÂ
Nick Hohenstein (3-1) led the men in blue from the bump from the second to the seventh, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. During this stretch, the Raptors never had more than one runner on at a time.
With Hohenstein out of the game in the seventh, Montgomery began its slow crawl back into the game. A bases loaded walk, sac fly, and another bases loaded walk cut their defecit down to just three with two outs. A controversial bases loaded throwing error from Harford allowed one run to score, cutting the lead down to 10-8. Fighting Owl reliever
Hunter Bell (S, 3) stopped the bleeding there, retiring the next batter on a groundout to retire the side.
Harford is now 20-7-1 (16-4 MD JUCO) with the win.
