BEL AIR, Md. - Midfielder
Madison Trevillian blasted a game-winning free kick into the back of the net with 5:02 left in overtime, boosting Harford to its first win of 2021, Tuesday afternoon inside the Harford Sports Complex.
It was a dramatic win for the Fighting Owls, who saw the field for the first time since November 3, 2018.
Freshman midfielder
Sarah Barnes put Harford on the board first, driving a shot past the Hagerstown goalie for a 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered back with nine minutes to play in the opening half to tie the game 1-1 heading into the break.
Lauren Westbrook put Harford back up in the 51st minute on an excellent pass from
Rylee Kluge. The game remained in favor of the Fighting Owls for the next 38 minutes, but a goal from the Hawks with eight seconds left on the clock forced overtime.
After an early shot from Hagerstown was pushed to the left of the goal, the Fighting Owls drove down the field and earned a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. That was all the space the women in blue needed, as Trevillian hit pay dirt on a lofty free kick to send a packed Harford Stadium home happy.
The Fighting Owls move to 1-0 on the year, while Hagerstown dips to 0-1.
