BEL AIR, Md. - Harford volleyball took its first set off Monroe in the Fighting Owls modern era (2008-present), but fell 3-1 to the Mustangs on Saturday afternoon inside the APGFCU Arena.
After dropping its first set to Monroe, Harford came out firing and took an early 8-2 in set two. A small run by the Mustangs was followed by the two teams trading points until a 3-0 stretch made it 16-16, forcing Harford to call timeout.
Out of the break, Harford picked up three straight points before Monroe took three of the next four to pull within one point. The two teams traded 3-0 runs one last time before Harford took point 24 on a service error and the final point of the match on a kill by
Katie Keech that will go into the history books.
Monroe rebounded in the final two sets to take the overall win on the day.
The match featured a pair of strong performances from Italian freshman
Martina Croce and
Benedetta Canfora. Croce recorded 17 digs and 16 assists, while Canfora tallied a team leading 20 digs.
Harford now stands at 3-2 on the year.
