Wilmington, NC – The Harford Fighting Owls men's basketball team split games during their weekend trip to North Carolina in the Cape Fear Basketball Classic. Friday's contest against the Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils went to the wire as the Fighting Owls pulled off a 74-71 win. The Sea Devils controlled most of the first half of play. A Malik Carson put-back at the halftime horn put Harford within 3 as the teams entered the locker rooms. Fueled by the halftime buzzer beater, the Fighting Owls provided a strong second half performance that the Sea Devils could not match. Harford was led by Kenneth Moore's 20 points and a double-double from Malik Carson (17 points, 11 rebounds).
On Saturday, the Fighting Owls took on the Brunswick Community College Dolphins. Brunswick was at full strength with several players returning to the lineup. The Dolphin front court size was a tough challenge for the young Fighting Owls as they were outrebounded on the offensive boards 17 – 2 and 47 – 27 for the game. Even with the size advantage, Brunswick could not put away Harford who relied on 46% shooting from long range. The teams were knotted at 79 – 79 at the end of regulation. In the extra period, the Dolphins slowly pulled away with a hard-fought victory. The Fighting Owls had four players in double figures, led by Jahsiah Lamothe and Kenneth Moore's 17 points each. The Carson brothers (Malik and Maseo) chipped in 13 and 11.
Next up, Harford travels to Monroe College for a mid-week matchup in New York City.
