BEL AIR, Md. – Over the weekend Harford Community College played host to the annual Harford Hoops Classic, a two-day event featuring 4 games between Howard Community College, Delaware Technical Community College, Community College of Beaver County, and the Harford Fighting Owls.
Day 1 began with a casual win by the Howard Dragons over the Beaver County Titans 74-58. The second contest of the day between Harford and Delaware Tech was anything but casual. The Fighting Owls would enter halftime up 46-41, only to find themselves tied at the end of regulation and forced into overtime. In the end, the Fighting Owls would secure the win 97-91.
For Delaware Tech, a good amount of credit goes to a standout performance by Syed Myles, who had 34 points on the game. For Harford, the wealth was shared and 6 different players scored double-digit points.
Maseo Carson would lead the Fighting Owls with 20 points and 8 rebounds, notably going 5-5 from 3-point range. The combined effort of
Jahsiah Lamothe and
Jadyn Williams would offer the Fighting Owls 21 points and 12 steals. Overall, the Fighting Owls would score 33 points off of turnovers and the team bench would contribute 45 points to the victory.
Day 2 was initiated by another showcase of talent by the Dragons of Howard, this time beating Delaware Tech 90-76. Later in the day, Harford would manage their second victory of the weekend on a final score of 68-56 over the Titans of Beaver County.
The Titans would keep the contest within 4 points entering halftime, but ultimately failing to translate possessions to points would plague Del Tech and give the Fighting Owls the opportunity to gradually pull away. Harford's
Jahsiah Lamothe would end the contest with a team-high 15 points, flanked by
Maseo Carson and
Paul Mason with 13 and 12 points respectively. The Fighting Owls were out-rebounded 46 to 23, but limited their turnovers and capitalized on 16 giveaways by the Titans.
The Fighting Owls stand at 7-6 (3-2 in MD JUCO) after the weekend.
