BEL AIR, Md. - Harford secured its first victory of 2022, edging Messiah College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Owls improve to 1-4 on the season.
How It Happened
After surrendering No. 3 doubles as well as No. 4 and 6 singles due to having five players, Harford found itself behind early. The Fighting Owls managed to take both doubles points to pull within one before singles action.
Needing to win three of the four singles matches to take the day, the Fighting Owls were dealt an early blow by losing No. 5 singles in straight sets. However, Harford started its climb back with a straight set win by
Anna Holway (6-0, 6-2).
Lily Holtschneider battled to take game one, then dropped set two before taking a dramatic tiebreaker to claim the victory at No. 2 singles. This left
Caroline Novak at No. 3 singles, who pulled off a 6-4, 7-6(3) victory to give Harford the comeback victory.
