ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Harford's 12 runs in the first four innings were just enough on Wednesday, as the Fighting Owls carved out a 12-10 victory over the Howard Dragons.
Kaitlyn Delaney pushed Harford ahead early with a solo home run to left center. Howard took over briefly with a 2-1 advantage in the second, but the Fighting Owls would outscore the Dragons 11-1 over the next two innings to take a seemingly insurmountable lead. However, Howard plated three runs in the fifth and sixth to slice the deficit to 12-9. The Dragons then plated one run in the final inning and eventually put the tying running at the dish before a strikeout and a flyout ended the contest.
Delaney ended up led the Fighting Owls on offense after finishing 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. Five addition Harford players ended game one with at least two hits.
Mackenzie Burton was the winning pitcher and moves to 4-3 on the year.
Harford improves to 9-8 after the win.
*Game two was postponed in the top of the third after rain forced a stoppage with Harford leading 9-0*
