BEL AIR, Md. - The Fighting Owls came back to take game two on Friday, as Cayuga's late blunder allowed
Mackenzie Burton to score and give Harford a 9-8 win.
Harford looked dominate early, taking a 6-1 lead after two thanks to extra base knocks by
Jess Bouthet and
Emily Curry. Cayuga fought back in the middle innings, pulling within one after the fourth and claiming an 8-6 lead after the fifth. The Fighting Owls showed no quit however, as
Lena Wondolowski drove home
Kaitlyn Delaney and Curry to tie the game in the sixth.
Riley Fisher (2-2) relieved McLaughlin heading into the seventh, and the freshman pitcher managed to hold off Cayuga to give Harford a chance to earn a sweep. The Fighting Owls rewarded her for her efforts, as a well placed shot by
Brianna Brunetto fooled the Spartan left fielder and allowed Burton to reach home for the walk-off victory.
Friday marks the first time that Harford has swept a same day doubleheader with a team since April 10, 2018 when they took two off Southern Maryland.
The Fighting Owls are now 2-4 with the win.
