BEL AIR, Md. - Harford's offense scored seven runs in the first two innings, then held on to defeat the ASA Avengers 8-6 in game two on Saturday evening.
Blake Mayberry sparked the offense in the first, driving home
Ehi Okojie for a 1-0 lead.
Trey Cruz drove home Mayberry in the next at-bat via the long ball for a 3-0 lead after one.
Jay Kalieta picked things back up in the second via a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch and a throwing error later scored
Bobby Spencer and
Austin Clauser, with Cruz rounding out the effort with a single that drove home Okojie for a 7-0 advantage.
ASA picked up two runs in the top of the third, then one run over the next three innings to pull within two. A sacrifice fly by
Brody Levin gave Harford some insurance in the sixth, but the Avengers managed to load the bases with two outs in the seventh.
Ian Schools (S, 2) trotted out of the bullpen to make the save and did so via an emphatic strikeout to deliver Harford the victory.
The Fighting Owls move to 35-6 on the season after the win.
