BEL AIR, Md. - Harford infielder
Trey Cruz finished a single short of the cycle, as the Fighting Owls doubled up the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) 14-7 to earn a sweep over the Hawks on Sunday evening.
The Fighting Owls found themselves trailing early again, as CSM plated seven runs over the first two innings. Not phased by the lead, Harford climbed back into the contest a la game one by piecing together strong innings. Cruz kicked off the scoring in the third with homer to right center that plated
Dylan Wyandt. One batter later and
Jeremiah Guzman chipped in a solo home run to bring the Fighting Owls within four. Cruz struck again the fifth with an RBI-double and Guzman scored one more with a sacrifice fly to slot Harford with two runs of the lead.
While the Fighting Owl bats heated up, Harford's arms cooled off CSM's offense.
Joe Grassi (2-0) and
Frank Siano combined to allow just one hit while chairing seven over the final five innings. Harford's offensive rewarded them with a lead in the fifth after
Joe Quelch's single and Cruz's triple scored four in the frame. The Fighting Owls later added insurance on a
Tyler Blittersdorf long ball and three bases loaded free passes in the sixth. Siano blanked the Hawks in the top seventh and Harford walked away the victors.
Harford moves to 37-6 (20-4 MD JUCO) after the victory.
