Box Score Bel Air, MD – The Harford Fighting Owls began the hardest stretch of their 2022 schedule by traveling to Virginia to take on the Statesmen of Richard Bland College. The Statesmen entered the match as a team receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division 1 polls.
The back and forth contest was broken up late in the 1st half as Richard Bland struck first with a goal by their leading scorer, Duarte Veigas Mendes. The Statesmen went into halftime with a 1-0 lead and momentum to take control of the contest.
The Fighting Owls were not deterred by the scoreboard and turned to their veterans to lead a comeback. At the midway point of the 2nd half, Tyrik Troutman netted the equalizer. Minutes later, Tyrik Troutman found Kye Williams for the go-ahead tally. The lead was short lived as Richard Bland found the net two minutes later. Regulation time ended with the teams knotted at 2-2.
In overtime, both teams turned away scoring opportunities as they battled for victory. As time was running out in the first period, Alexis Garcia found Kye Williams for his 2nd goal and match winner in a thrilling overtime victory.
The Fighting Owls continue their stretch of tough matches as they travel to Rochester, NY on Saturday to take on Monroe Community College. The Fighting Owl's offense will look to break the MCC defense that has only allowed one goal in their last 5 matches.
