Fighting Owls Fight to Finish

ROCKVILLE, MD - In another narrow escape, the Fighting Owls managed a 1-0 win against the Mercer County Vikings during their only game of the Tom Bichy Tournament hosted by Montgomery College. The only goal of the match came in the 75th minute of play.

The first half remained goalless as both teams exhibited solid defensive play and created limited opportunities. Harford dominated possession and managed to launch eight shots, four of which were on target. Mercer County Community College, on the other hand, had three attempts, but none troubled the opposition's goalkeeper. The first 45 minutes concluded with a deadlock on the scoreboard.

As the game progressed into the second half, the offensive presence from the Fighting Owls intensified. Harford  continued to apply pressure, recording seven more shots, resulting in a total of 15 shots for the match. Mercer County Community College struggled to break through the solid FIghting Owls defense, managing only three more shots in the second half. Their best chance came late in the second half on a break away, but Evie Heinlein was there to make a high save and retain the lead.

The decisive moment of the game came when Harford's Emilee Axelsson found the back of the net off a corner kick, breaking the deadlock. Axelsson was assisted by Carly Hemmings, after a bouncing ball parried off multiple players in front of the goal. The relentless effort on the play proved to be the difference-maker.

Despite their best efforts, Mercer County Community College couldn't equalize, and the match concluded with a final score of 1-0 in favor of Harford Community College.

Next, the Fighting Owls host Monroe College on September 3rd in their home opener. The Mustangs are currently ranked #8 in the country, assuring a challenging contest for the home team.
