Men's Basketball: Fighting Owls Skid Hits Four After 76-68 Loss at Cardinals

Catonsville, Md. -- Harford men's basketball lost its fourth straight game last night after falling 76-68 to CCBC Catonsville on the road at the Jack Manley Wellness & Athletics Center.

Both teams showcased intense play, but it was CCBC Catonsville's shooting accuracy and free-throw execution that ultimately carried them to the win.

Harford (3-5, 0-1) held a 36-32 advantage at the break, but shot just 7-for-21 (33.3%) as a team in the second half.

The Fighting Owls were led by Jeremiah Barnes (Clinton, Md.), who delivered a 21-point performance, including four three-pointers on 8-of-14 shooting.

It was Barnes' third 20-point game this season and he has scored in double digits in all eight games.

Amare Curtis (Washington, D.C.) added 17 points, 5-for-12 overall, including a pair of threes.

Zach Kirk (Parkesburg, Pa.) also contributed significantly with 16 points and Elisha Brown (Bowie, Md.) added nine points, helping to keep the game close throughout.

However, despite their strong individual performances, Harford struggled with shooting accuracy in the second half and finished the game hitting just 37.3% (19-51) of shots.

CCBC Catonsville displayed a more balanced offensive attack, with five players scoring in double digits. Lance Porter led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Micah Morgan contributed 16 points and eight rebounds.

Kaleb Gray added 14 points and was a threat from long range, hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers. Wendall Tomlin came off the bench to provide 13 points, including 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, giving Catonsville the offensive depth they needed to pull ahead in the second half.

Free throws were a key factor in the game, as Catonsville capitalized on their opportunities at the line, converting 17-of-22 attempts (77.3%).

The Fighting Owls shot just 21-of-32 from the free-throw line (65.6%).

Despite a solid rebounding effort from Harford, who outrebounded Catonsville 38-30, turnovers proved to be an issue, as they committed 11 compared to Catonsville's 8.

Harford returns home tomorrow night and will look to bounce back against a tough Monroe University team. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena.
