Harford Women's Basketball heads into Winter Break as Winners of Three Staight

Harford Community College women's basketball put together a statement stretch in mid-December, having now won three straight. From a wire-to-wire grind against Prince George's Community College, to a high-scoring road battle at Cecil College, and culminating in a decisive home win over Howard Community College, the Fighting Owls found different ways to win while leaning on balanced scoring and strong second-half execution.

Harford 73, Howard Community College 58 — December 19, 2025
In the most recent action at the APGFCU Arena, Harford pulled away in the second half to earn a convincing 73-58 win over Howard. After a tight first half, the Fighting Owls' offensive efficiency and balanced scoring pushed them past the Dragons.

Harford and Howard battled evenly early. Harford led narrowly 17-14 after one quarter and kept it close with another 17 points in the second, heading into halftime up just six. But the Fighting Owls (7-5, 6-2 Maryland Juco Athletic Conference) flipped the script after the break. A decisive third quarter saw Harford outscore Howard 21-10, establishing separation on the scoreboard. The Fighting Owls capped the game with an 18-14 fourth quarter to secure the 15-point margin.

Freshman guard Ayca Kazak  (Samsun, Turkey) led the way with 22 points, knocking down 6 of 12 three-pointers and finishing a perfect 4-4 at the free-throw line. Amya Goodsell (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) added 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting and was perfect from the charity stripe, while Nehir Safkan (Mersin, Turkey) contributed 12 points and timely defense. Caryne Nelson (10) and Sanaiya Edmond (8) also scored in double figures, showing Harford's depth.

Harford's shooting improved when it mattered most, especially from beyond the arc in the second half, while Howard struggled to keep pace despite a strong first half. Howard's Hannah Chambers scored 14 points, but the Dragons could not sustain offensive efficiency when Harford turned up defensive pressure. The Owls also held an edge in rebounding and forced critical turnovers that led to transition opportunities late.

Harford 58, Prince George's Community College 57 — December 18, 2025
Just one day prior at Novak Field House, Harford survived a down-to-the-wire thriller against Prince George's Community College, edging out the Owls 58-57 in a gritty defensive battle. Harford struggled offensively at times but made enough critical plays down the stretch to secure the win.
The first quarter opened with Prince George's taking a 13-9 lead, but Harford responded with a big second quarter, outscoring the Owls 22-10 to take the advantage into halftime lead. From there, it was a back-and-forth battle in the second half, with neither team gaining more than a one-possession edge.

Harford led narrowly 40-33 after three quarters, but Prince George's rallied in the fourth, outscoring Harford 14-9 to trim the deficit, setting up a dramatic final minute.

Harford's offense got significant contributions from Kazak (19 points) and Safkan (17), both of whom logged all 40 minutes. Edmond added nine points and played aggressive defense, though Harford shot just over 31% for the game. Harford also held a rebound edge that helped them control crucial possessions.

Prince George's stayed within striking distance thanks to Aaliyah Membrino (16) and Kristin Smith (15), but Harford's defense in the final moments forced a missed shot that allowed the Fighting Owls to escape with the one-point win.

Harford 83, Cecil College 80 — December 16, 2025
In a classic shootout on the road at Cecil College, Harford pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn an 83-80 victory in one of its most exciting contests of the season. Neither team led by more than 10 in the first half and Cecil used a late surge in the third to take a 50-48 lead. However, Harford responded in the fourth with a furious offensive burst to reclaim control.

High-scoring first and third quarters kept fans engaged throughout. Harford took a 21-20 lead after one, but Cecil battled back to deadlock at halftime. The Fighting Owls then trailed by a couple of baskets after three, setting up the dramatic final frame. In the fourth quarter, Harford outscored Cecil 32-10 — a decisive run fueled by efficient shooting and clutch free throws — which ultimately sealed the tight three-point win.

Offensively, Harford received balanced scoring. Several players chipped in during the fourth quarter, with Goodsell, Safkan, Nelson and Kazak combining for steady production. Harford's ability to get to the line late and convert free throws in bunches was a turning point in the victory.

Despite the win, the game was not without tension. Cecil stayed competitive with multiple players scoring into double figures and making runs that kept the Fighting Owls on their toes. Harford's defense tightened up down the stretch, forcing key stops that allowed their offense to stay in rhythm.

Harford is back on the court after Winter Break to host Allegany College of Maryland on January 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
