Box Score BEL AIR, Md. – Harford Community College women's flag football delivered a dominant doubleheader sweep of Harrisburg Area Community College on April 18 at the Harford Sports Complex, showcasing explosive offense and a defense that turned takeaways into points in both contests.
Game 1: Harford 47, Harrisburg Area 0
Harford set the tone early in the opener, overwhelming Harrisburg Area with a balanced attack and relentless defensive pressure in route to a shutout victory.
Quarterback Caryne Nelson guided the offense efficiently through the air, completing 6-of-9 passes for 79 yards and two touch downs. Brianna Taylor emerged as a key playmaker, contributing 160 yards through the air and three touch downs in relief of Nelson. Bryanna Carter added impact plays in the passing game with five receptions for 167 yards and two touch downs.
Defensively, Harford controlled the game from start to finish. The unit forced multiple turnovers, including two interceptions returned for touch downs by Amya Goodsell and Nyla Dinkins, the former of which was taken back 50 yards. This style of play allowed the Fighting Owls to consistently flip field position and capitalized on short fields to build a commanding lead.
Game 2: Harford 45, Harrisburg Area 0
The second game followed a similar script, with Harford again dominating in all three phases.
Nelson led the offense, this time making a bigger impact on the ground with two rushing touch downs on four carries for 31 yards. Taylor rushed for a score as well and added another through the air, helping Harford total 185 yards of offense and average 8.0 yards per play.
The ground game proved especially effective, as Harford piled up 98 rushing yards on just nine attempts, averaging nearly 11 yards per carry. Alyson Gonzalez Alvarado added a 30-yard burst, highlighting the big-play ability of the unit.
Defensively, the Fighting Owls were even more impressive. Harford recorded four interceptions — three returned for touchdowns — accounting for a significant portion of the scoring output.
- Nehir Safkan led the defense with eight tackles and an interception return.
- Nyla Dinkins, Ayca Kazak, and Brianna Taylor each added interceptions, with Dinkins and Kazak returning theirs for scores.
Harford held Harrisburg Area to just 60 total yards and forced four interceptions, completely stifling any offensive rhythm.

Harford begins pool play on May 7 with games against Florida Gateway College and Bryant & Stratton College with game times currently scheduled for 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
