Standing at a mere 5 feet 2 inches tall, women's soccer standout Beth Lambros hardly looks like an intimidating player. However, don't be fooled by the bubbly blonde's petite frame.
In 2009, the sophomore midfielder accumulated 71 points, making her the eighth leading scorer in NJCAA Division I women's soccer.
Lambros was named a First-Team All-American last year, yet she remains extremely modest about her accomplishments. The sophomore was quick to brush off the spotlight, saying, “I am surrounded by awesome players, we have a really talented team”.
Lambros has not let the success get to her head and recognizes that her success begins with something larger, the team. “We have been really successful, but it is not all about one person, we do it as a team,” Lambros said.
The team is what Lambros loves most about playing soccer for the Fighting Owls. “I used to dread going to practice, but with this team. I really do look forward to coming out everyday and playing with them. “It is a very rewarding experience,” Lambros said. The sophomore enjoys spending time with everyone on the team, but admits her funniest teammate has to be Amanda Ballard. “She [Ballard] is hilarious, she is always making us crack up laughing.”
While Lambros is enjoying practice more, the forward admits that games are still her favorite part of the experience. “Game days are definitely more exciting,” Lambros said. However, the sophomore keeps game days pretty relaxed compared to most athletes. “I always listen to the same pump up mix before each game, but that's pretty much it,” Lambros said.
Even with all of her accomplishments, Lambros remains a well-rounded college student with typical interests and hobbies. The sophomore is majoring in elementary education and also enjoys listening to music or going to Chili's with her friends. Although she has been playing soccer for the past 15 years, Lambros hopes to pursue a career as a hairdresser. “Most people probably don't know that I love to do hair,” Lambros said.
While Lambros' might try to blend in with everyone, there is no hiding the feisty forward on the field. Lambros has helped the Fighting Owls earn a national ranking as the team makes a run at the NJCAA National Championship this year.
