BEL AIR, Md.—Harford Athletics saw a total of 20 student-athletes presented with diplomas during the 52nd Annual Commencement at Harford Community College on May 20, 2010. Paul Labe (baseball), Courtney Brewer (women's tennis) and Melissa Warczynski (women's lacrosse) highlighted the two-year athletes who made up the Class of 2010 by graduating as part of the Rho Beta Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.
In order to qualify for the honor society, students must maintain a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA. Labe and Brewer also graduated with High Honors, maintaining a 3.75 GPA or higher, while Warczynski earned the Honors designation with a GPA over 3.50. In addition, Labe was honored with the Academic Achievement Award, which is presented to students who have accomplished the highest academic average in credits earned at Harford Community College.
Brewer and Warczynski are also two of the most accomplished student-athletes of 2010, with Brewer earning First-Team MDJUCO All-Conference and Region XX All-Region honors for two straight years, as well as claiming four individual Region XX Tournament titles. Warczynski picked up All-Conference and All-Region designations for the 2010 season as well as a spot on the Region XX All-Tournament team, while Kelsey Strine (women's tennis) was a two-time individual Region XX champion for the Fighting Owls.
Chris Appel (golf), Sarah Cooley (softball), Craig Hanzelka (men's lacrosse, men's soccer), Nick Hartzell (men's lacrosse), Brittany Kaszak (volleyball), Bo Loar (baseball) and Bryan Six (men's soccer) round out the eleven-member graduating class of 2010. The commencement ceremony also honored graduates from August and December 2009, with Harford Athletics seeing nine student-athletes recognized: Marie Fox (women's basketball, women's lacrosse, volleyball), Quortnee Long (women's basketball, women's lacrosse), Julie Strong (women's tennis), Brian McKeldin (men's tennis), Erica Bizzell (women's soccer, volleyball), Eliza Burk (women's soccer), Jocelyn Kelly (softball), Lauren Springel (softball) and CJ Murray (men's soccer).
