BEL AIR, Md. – The saying goes that you can't wear white after Labor Day. The Harford women's soccer team will be one group that will want to keep its white uniforms active for the fall season. With a 7-1 victory over Sussex on Friday, the Fighting Owls extended their unbeaten streak at Harford Stadium to a program-best 15 games (14-0-1).
2009 All-American Beth Lambros opened the scoring in the 10th minute off a crisp centering pass from classmate Penelope Fantis. Just minutes later, after a lackluster spell for the potent Fighting Owl offense, the defense allowed the first goal against Harford this season, on a quick one-timer over the outstretched arms of freshman goalkeeper Audrey Baldwin, knotting the score at 1-1.
In the 17th minute, Andrea Siedlarczyk continued her offensive prowess with the eventual game-winning tally. The rookie fired a rocket past the keeper off an assist from sophomore Jenna Quaranta.
The Fighting Owls put the game away in the second half with a total team effort. Freshman Amanda Zamora won the ball at midfield and sent it long for sophomore Erin Lynn. Once the keeper committed to the prolific goal scorer, Lynn centered the ball to a wide open Becky McManus, who chipped it into the open net.
Lynn picked up her second assist in the 70th minute when she sent it ball long to a streaking Fantis, who fooled the keeper for the 4-1 lead. Fantis scored again moments later on a penalty kick. Fantis then returned the favor in the final minutes of the game, setting up Lynn for her first of the day. Lynn was also credited with a goal when the visitors scored an own goal.
The Fighting Owls hit the road for their first game away from Harford Stadium when they take on Anne Arundel on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
