GEORGETOWN, Del. - The Harford baseball team rebounded from a slow start on Saturday to earn a doubleheader split with Delaware Tech in a road non-conference game. The Fighting Owls dropped the opener 8-1 before holding on to win 6-4 in eight innings.
Delaware Tech 8, Harford 1
The Fighting Owls held Del Tech to just four hits but walked a season-high 10 batters in the loss. Jason Seitler took his first collegiate loss on the hill, lasting just one inning while walking four in defeat. He allowed six runs in the opening frame, four earned.
Alex Riley and Jonathan Castro both collected two hits for Harford, while Riley stole two bases in two attempts. Anthony Ortiz scored the Fighting Owls lone run.
Harford 6, Delaware Tech 4 (8)
Sophomore Christian Wolfe started a two-out rally with an eighth-inning single, and Castro doubled home the winning run in the Harford win. James Wilson followed with an RBI single for the final margin.
The late-game heroics overshadowed another brilliant performance on the mound by sophomore Corey Taylor. The left-hander tossed six innings of three-hit, one-run baseball. He struck out six but was dealt a no decision after the bullpen couldn't hold the lead in the seventh.
Harford return home for the 2011 home opener on Wednesday against Camden County. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
