Harford Fighting Owls Go Yard for a Cause

ABERDEEN, MD -- The 2025 Home Runs for the Homeless fundraiser was a hit for Harford County, as Fighting Owls Derek Poole, Jack Fitzpatrick, Danny Scullion, and recent transfer Jaxon Kehoe turned in an amazing, championship performance.

Hosted annually by Harford Family House, "Home Runs for the Homeless" brings the community together for a day of spirited competition and heartfelt giving, all to support local individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This year's event was held on Wednesday, July 23, at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium and drew dozens of teams, hundreds of attendees, and thousands of swings — all aimed at raising vital funds and awareness.

"We were glad to be able to represent HCC at the annual Home Runs for the Homeless event.," said Harford head baseball coach Josh Houser. "We are thankful to the Harford Family House for putting up a great event every summer, and hope to return next year for another chance to win it all."

Among the many standout moments of the day, Harford Community College emerged as the overall champion, racking up an impressive 2,520 points and claiming bragging rights as the top-scoring team of the event.

HCC's participation wasn't just about athleticism, it was a testament to their commitment to service and leadership in the Harford County community. Their presence on the field reflected their mission off the field: to support and uplift the lives of local residents through education, outreach, and partnerships.

"Whether you swung a bat, cheered from the stands, or supported us behind the scenes, you were part of something powerful. Together, we're helping change lives in Harford County," said event co-chair Scott Elliott.

The 2025 event featured plenty of memorable highlights:

  • Dozens of teams stepped up to the plate in the home run derby
  • Hundreds of swings resulted in smiles, cheers, and friendly rivalries
  • Funds raised will directly benefit local families by providing shelter, support, and hope

In addition to HCC's big win, several other individuals and teams were honored:

Corporate Team Winner: DICORP (1,640 points)
Officer's Cup: Harford County Sheriff's Office (1,580 points)
Mark Logsdon Award: Deputy Sheriff Michael Pralle (775 points)
Silver Slugger: Matt Wilson (920 points)
Georgia Peach: Allison Pomroy & Brittany Stein
Golden Arm (Tie): Eddie Meredith & Conor Reynolds
Crowdfunding MVP: Will Reiber

As organizers prepare a full recap, including total funds raised, they're already looking ahead to next year's derby. Participants and supporters are encouraged to share feedback through an upcoming survey to make the 2026 event even better.

With big hits, big hearts, and even bigger community spirit, "Home Runs for the Homeless" 2025 proved once again that when Harford comes together, everyone wins — especially those who need it most.
