BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford volleyball team dropped a pair of nonconference contests at home on Friday to Hagerstown and Monroe.
Hagerstown 3, Harford 1The contest against the Hawks was another battle, similar to the road MD JUCO match earlier in the year that the Fighting Owls won in five sets. On Friday night, however, the ball bounced in Hagerstown's favor on more than one occasion.
The Hawks took the first set with a dominant second rotation to pull away from a 10-9 lead to a 22-12 advantage in the eventual 25-17 win. Harford bounced back in a big way, jumping up 14-7 in the 25-16 victory. In a crucial spot in the third set, Hagerstown scored seven-straight points to turn a 16-13 defecit into a 20-16 lead and grab momentum down the stretch to pull out a four-set win.
Tiyana Bumbray bashed 13 kills and eight digs to lead the charge.
Morgan Tennant recorded 29 assists and eight digs while Braqulle Horton was the leader with 13 digs.
Britney Fleming's four aces was a game changer in the second set and
Alicia Horton and
Haleigh Plummer totaled seven and six kills, respectively.
Monroe 3, Harford 0The Mustangs, who ended the Fighting Owls' season last year, remained unbeaten with a sweep to improve their record to 27-0. They have lost just three sets all season, winning on Friday, 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
Bumbray's seven kills was a team-high, while Plummer, Horton and Goldston all chipped in with four. The Fighting Owls attacked at a -.047 clip while Monroe hit a .273.
Tennant was credited with 18 assists on 20 kills. She led the team with nine digs.
The Fighting Owls host Southern Maryland on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
