BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat previously undefeated Garrett on Monday, 76-68. The Fighting Owls attacked the rim after the break, built a double-digit lead and held on for the eight-point win.
The Fighting Owls did not connect on a field goal until the 11:47 mark in the first half, but the Lakers were almost just as cold, holding just a 9-2 advantage when Kawuan Chavis broke the ice. Both teams settled for jump shots in the first half, and Garrett took a 34-31 lead into the break.
Harford began to attack the rim after intermission and used a 17-4 run to open the half and flipped the script, building a double-digit cushion it enjoyed most of the second half.
Cedric Hines,
Jay Johnson and
Evason Ogbonna all enjoyed scorching hot second halves to help the Fighting Owls snap a short two-game skid. Hines netted 13 of his team-high 17 points after the break, while all 12 of Johnson's markers came in the final 20. Ogbonna scored 10 of his dozen in the second stanza while adding nine rebounds in his first career start.
Fadil Robinson added 17 rebounds off the bench, eight offensive.
