BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Athletic Department was awarded both Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) Presidents' Cups for the 2014-15 season, becoming the first school in league history to win both the Men's and Women's Cups in the same year. The Fighting Owls won a school-record seven MD JUCO Championships this season.
The announcement marks the third-straight Women's Cup for Harford and the first-ever Men's Cup. The Presidents' Cup is awarded to a conference institution that accumulates the most points based on their finish in the regular season of the conference standings. The highest point total is awarded to the first-place team depending on how many schools sponsor the sport in the MD JUCO.
Harford won the MD JUCO Regular Season Championships in women's soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball and women's lacrosse, and won both the Conference Tournament Championships in men's and women's basketball. Four of the five regular season titles were won outright, with the women's lacrosse title being shared with Howard.
On the women's side, Harford amassed 48 points, 13.5 better than second-place finisher Hagerstown. The Fighting Owls earned 12.5 points in women's basketball, tying for first place with Baltimore City, but the Panthers won the head-to-head tiebreaker to claim the Regular Season Title. Harford also claimed the most points allowed in soccer (9), volleyball (12), softball (10), lacrosse (2.5) and tennis (2).
The Harford men claimed the first Cup with 37.5 points, topping runner-up Frederick by five points. The Fighting Owls took 14 points from baseball's conference crown, earned 10 points from the basketball squad that finished tied for fifth and 8.5 from the soccer team that tied for fourth.
The conference started awarding the trophy to one school after the 2005-06 season. In 2010, MD JUCO awarded two Presidents' Cups, one to the winner the best women's program and one for the best men's program.
