BEL AIR, Md. -
Davonte Williams blocked a game-tying lay-up in the final seconds to give the Harford men's basketball team a 69-67 victory over NOVA on Tuesday. The Fighting Owls found a way to win a close game after dropping the previous two contests in the final seconds.
Harford was only whistled for four fouls in the second half, and with a two-point lead on defense, they were able to keep the Nighthawks in front of them and use their fouls to give. NOVA inbounded the ball with four seconds remaining, and somehow Doyle Boyd was free under the hoop for the potential game-tying bunny. Williams appeared out of no where and blocked the lay-up and the Fighting Owls escaped.
NOVA led 67-64 after a tough lay-up by Boyd with 1:43 left, but
Cedric Hines scored the game's final five points with an unbelievable three-point play on a contested lay-in and three free throws.
The Nighthawks led throughout the first half before Harford cut the lead to 34-33 at the break. Three ties and three lead changes later, Hines and Williams took over the contest.
Hines finished with a team-high 16 points while Williams and
Jay Johnsons scored nine each.
Evason Ogbonna netted 10 points off the bench to go with five boards and four blocks. Johnson added a team-high 11 boards in the win.
